Somewhat surprising result in the singles final of the 2021 edition of the Concord Iași Open, the main favorite of the competition, the Frenchman Hugo Gaston, being defeated by the Czech Zdenek Kolar, seed no. 5. The first set was an incredible one, Kolar managing to win 7-5, although at one point he was led 5-1.
In the second set, however, the difference was made by a single break, won by Gaston in the very first game and which ensured the 6-4 victory in this second set.
In the decisive, Kolar was the one who managed the first break, he quickly distanced himself at 4-1, he scored a break ball for 5-1, but he missed it, Hugo returned to the match and in only a few minutes the score became equal, 4-4. It was, however, a brief burst of pride from the Frenchman because Zdenek regained control of the game and eventually prevailed.
