Iasi won the organization of a WTA 125 tournament!
We are very pleased to announce that Iasi will host a WTA 125 tournament starting in 2022! As a tradition now, "Concord Iași Open" will take place in the next three years in Iași, not being excluded at all that these two events take place, in July, in consecutive weeks!
"For now, we have just signed the contract, we are glad that we will be able to offer Iasi and the public of Iași another high-profile event. The name of the WTA 125 tournament will probably be established by the end of the year ", said Andrei Oriță, the owner of the ATP 100 challenger "Concord Iași Open", the most important men's tournament in Romania!
After two consecutive editions, in which Iași received a place of honor on the world tennis map, being noticed since the first ATP 100 challenger tournament, held in 2020, for the 2022 one we have already prepared a surprise for you: we signed a three-year contract for a WTA 125 tournament! The attractive competition will take place in the second half of July, and we will determine if it will start on July 18 or 25.
"It was not really normal to support only the boys. We need to be equidistant and give girls equal opportunities. The prizes for the women's tournament will be $ 125,000, and six wild cards are awarded on the main singles board. Whoever loses in the first round in singles on the main board will receive a point in the world ranking ", added Andrei Oriță.
